Atopic Dermatitis

This is Robbie, a six year old male West Highland Terrier (we see a lot of Westies) had had severe, itchy skin disease for five years. This dog looks very much like the one with the food allergy, but in fact he had atopic dermatitis. This is a very common, but complex disease usually associated with allergies, in this case to house dust mites. It just goes to show there is no substitute for a thorough investigation and accurate diagnosis. He was treated with a combination of desensitising injections and ciclosporin (Atopica)

The middle photo shows him after two months of treatment and the one on the right after around six months.
